1 -to exaggerate, to overdo o to go too far?-
Nota d'usoNon è sempre corretto tradurre il verbo “esagerare” con to exaggerate. Quest'ultimo, infatti, è usato soltanto quando si sovrastima qualcosa: I'm not exaggerating, there were a hundred people at the party, non sto esagerando, c'erano cento persone alla festa. Quando invece si vuole sottolineare che si è ecceduto in qualcosa si può usare semplicemente la locuzione too much o too many: I cooked too much rice, ho esagerato con il riso; I've made too many sandwiches, ho esagerato con i panini (non I've exaggerated with the sandwiches). In alternativa si può usare il verbo to overdo: I overdid it yesterday, I'm aching all over, ieri ho esagerato, mi fa male dappertutto. To go too far viene usato quando il comportamento di una persona è eccessivo e porta a conseguenze negative: I'm sorry I upset you, I went too far, mi dispiace di averti turbato, ho esagerato.English-Italian dictionary > -to exaggerate, to overdo o to go too far?-
